Bukvica ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Bukvica mobile application, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
By using Bukvica, you agree to the collection and use of information described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and username. If you sign in with Apple, we receive only the information you choose to share (name and/or email).
Profile information
You may optionally add a profile photo, city, phone number, and contact handles (Viber, WhatsApp) to your profile. This information is visible to other users.
Book listings
When you add a book, we store the title, author, genre, condition, language, any notes you add, and the cover photo you upload.
Swipes and matches
We record your swipe activity (which books you liked or passed) in order to detect mutual matches between users.
Messages
Chat messages sent through the app are stored in order to display your conversation history and support real-time delivery.
Ratings
After a completed exchange, ratings you give or receive are stored and displayed on user profiles.
Usage data
We may collect basic usage information (such as app errors or crash reports) to help us improve the app. This data is not linked to your identity.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the Bukvica service
- To show your books to other users in the Discover feed
- To detect mutual matches and enable chat between matched users
- To display your profile to other users you interact with
- To send account-related emails (email verification, password reset)
- To improve the app based on usage and error data
We do not use your data for advertising and we do not build advertising profiles.
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes.
Your profile information (username, photo, city, ratings, book listings) is visible to other registered users of the app. Contact details (phone, Viber, WhatsApp) are only shown to users you have matched with.
Service providers
We use Supabase (supabase.com) as our backend infrastructure provider for authentication, database storage, and file storage. Supabase processes data on our behalf and is bound by a data processing agreement.
Legal requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
4. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data (profile, books, messages) is permanently deleted within 30 days. Some data may be retained in anonymised form for analytics purposes.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information in your profile
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile → Account → Delete Account screen in the app. For other requests, contact us at contact@bukvica.app.
6. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and secure authentication through Supabase. While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Bukvica is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
